As this special day draws to an end, I have decided to pour my heart out to you. Being our anniversary also, I am writing this note to let you know what’s on my mind and in the depths of my heart. For the past 10 or 9 years (you know men are not good record keepers, you will know the exact number of years…lol) that I have known you, you have being nothing but a prayer answered (not my prayer though, am sure it’s that of my mum…lol). From the very first day I saw you, coming on stage towards me at our department get-together; I experienced what many call: love at first sight. Your simplicity was remarkable and your beauty; out of this world. The elegance with which you made every step and the tardiness with every run around the musical chairs, took my breath away. You were the first to be eliminated and I was the MC of the night. With the duty to see the game to its end, I longed to hear your voice. Occasionally stealing glances at you sitting at the corner, I prayed that the impression I was making on you was good enough to deserve an audience and a number. Thankfully, it was!
Being together with you for all these years has been challenging, transformational and truly rewarding. Throughout the sweet and the bitter, the smiles and the laughter, the heartaches and the tears, I have come to the realization that you are the only lady who truly gives a ‘damn’ about me. Throughout my life, I have sought for love, appreciation and care from so many places and from so many people especially in-between our breakups and makeups, but many come seeking their own, taking what they can and leaving me worse than they met me.
With you, there has never been a need to try so hard to impress you. Love for you has not been through expensive gifts and high-priced outings. You held me up when no one cared to even know I was down, you’ve supported me despite my erroneous life choices and you were there for me when i had no one to turn to. I am no Knight in shining armour, neither am I a tall prince charming well-built with six packs nor high-class with a money bag but you have loved me no less.
With tears in my eyes and a heart full of gratitude, I want to say, loud enough for the whole world to hear, that I love you very much Janie and I have no doubt in my mind that you are my only half.
